Coaching

We are all creative and capable individuals with the capacity to achieve our dreams and change the world, but sometimes we get stuck. We face obstacles that get in the way of accomplishing our goals, and we need a partner to help us navigate through the challenges and toward progress on the things that matter to us. That partner is a coach! We can help you work through the personal or professional challenges that are getting in the way of achieving your goals. Jason has a wealth of experience helping individuals and teams maximize their potential, and he is passionate about being a catalyst for all people to live the lives they aspire to. Jason believes each of us are unique individuals, so he takes a personalized approach to meeting the unique needs of each client in a supportive and judgement-free environment. In addition to his well-developed knack for helping people, Jason is an Associate Certified Coach through the International Coaching Federation

What is coaching?

The International Coach Federation defines coaching as "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential." Coaching is a client-centered process of inquiry, discovery, and accountability that empowers you to achieve your goals and dreams. Coaching is not consulting, counseling, mentoring, or advice-giving. Consultants gather and evaluate data and make recommendations based on expertise. Counselors use psychotherapy to help clients work through a healing or change process, often by reconciling past suffering or trauma with the present. Mentors give advice or impart knowledge based on the mentor's related past experience. Each of these relationships often involve giving advice or direction, and each of these individuals can be valuable partners in the right context. Coaching is different. Coaches do not give advice or make expert recommendations. Rather, they help clients unlock and tap into their own internal strengths, talents, and expertise to make progress on challenges that are important to them. Through this process, clients not only make progress on their goals, but also build their own capacity for creative problem-solving.

How does coaching work?

Each coaching relationship is structured based on the unique needs of the client. The coach and client generally meet once per week for 30-60 minute sessions for a pre-determined length of time, with the goal of making progress on whatever leadership challenge led the client to coaching in the first place. Since coaching focuses on long-term progress toward challenging goals, we recommend a coaching term of at least three months. Sessions can be in-person, on the phone, or through video conference. In a typical coaching session, the coach will ask thought-provoking questions to help the client explore, learn about, and understand his or her challenge, and assist with client with generating incremental "small wins" toward making significant progress on the challenge over the course of the coaching relationship. We explore powerful questions like:

  • What are your dreams and aspirations?

  • What personal or professional challenge do you want to tackle?

  • What's getting in the way of who you want to be and what you want to achieve?

  • What actions or steps will help you make real progress?

Personal learning and growth is a critical part of the coaching process -- the goal is to both help the client make progress on their challenge -- so reflection and experimentation are important elements of the coaching process.
